Film STAR Meenakshi Sheshadri is a multi-faceted artiste. Her expertise in acting, dancing, modelling and singing is for all to see. A born artiste whose talent speaks volumes.
In the city for the Pune Festival, Sheshadri gave a Kuchipudi recital at Shree Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch on Monday after a gap of two years. The show started half-an-hour beyond schedule. Yet no one complained. Rather the jam-packed crowd waited with bated breath for the curtain to rise and for the star to perform. She started with a Ganesh vandana and went on to present Ashta Laxmi depicting the different images of Indian women in the form of goddesses Saraswati, Parvati, Lakshmi. There was also an excellent piece of foot work when she depicted Bal Gopal8217;, with her feet entangled at one point and both her toes together.
Besides Kuchipudi, Sheshadri is also an exponent of Bharat Natyam and Kathak. She performed on stage when she was four. She has a Master8217;s degree in Kuchipudi. But the best came towards the last. Her Thali nrutya stunned the audience. She danced within the circumference of a plate. It was amazing to watch her covering every corner of the huge stage without stepping out of the round plate.
Later, she explained that thali nrutya brings one closer to the Almighty. Meenakshi feels that Indian dance is not to please the audience but a tribute to the Creator. She ended the show with a tribute to Shiva, leaving the audience craving for more.
