Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee once again expressed deep concern over the health of Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, who has been on hunger strike since December 3. He reiterated his request to her to withdraw her fast. The Chief Minister said this in reply to a letter that the Trinamool Congress leader had sent him earlier in the day. In that letter, Mamata had once again requested Bhattacharjee to roll back the Tata Motors8217; small-car project at Singur and return the land to the farmers.
Unlike previous occasions, when he requested Mamata to come to the discussion table or send a representative, Bhattacharjee8217;s letter which was sent today said that 8220;for the interests of the farmers of Singur I am ready to sit with you for talks8221;.
Along with the letter, the Chief Minister also sent two documents related to the Tata project and land-use in the State.
8220;My ardent request to you is that this is not a 8216;prestige8217; fight, it concerns the development of Singur as well as the State as a whole. This factory will trigger bigger economic development than agriculture does there. The income of those who will be employed here, either directly or indirectly, will increase manifold. The economy of the entire area will be on the upswing. You please try to understand that other automobile companies are also showing interest in investments in the State. It is a question of total development of the state,8221; said the Chief Minister in his letter
