ST JOHN’S (ANTIGUA), APRIL 9: Australian strike bowler Glenn McGrath may be rested for much of the One-Day series against the West Indies to ensure he is fit for the World Cup campaign.

McGrath was a tireless performer during the four-Test series, drawn 2-2, and finished with 30 wickets. The first of seven One-Day Internationals is to be played in St Vincent on Sunday.

“The reason why we bowled Glenn so much during the Test series is because there’s not another Test match for four months, so he can have a bit of a break perhaps during the One-Dayers,” Waugh said.

“Then there’s a couple of weeks off before the World Cup so he can recharge his batteries. If there was another couple of Tests coming up now we probably would have had to hold him back a bit.”
