MC nomination papers valid

CHANDIGARH, Dec 23: A division bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has held the nominations filed by two Pinjore residents valid for elections to the Municipal Committee. The elections are to be held on December 30.

The orders were pronounced by Justice H. S. Brar and K. S. Kumaran of the High Court while taking up the petitions filed by Krishna Devi and Kamaljit Singh.

The two had stated in the petition that the nomination papers, filed on December 3, were rejected by the Returning Officer on December 5.

The officer, according to the petitioners, had stated that the papers were received at 11.05 a.m. while the time for filing the papers was 11 a.m. The counsel for the petitioners had added that the nominees had entered the Returning Officer8217;s room well before 11 a.m. and had been waiting for their turn to hand over the papers.
