CHANDIGARH, JAN 31: With the BJP-SAD councillor adamant over their demand of pressing Adiwal to seek simple majority, the meeting of the 29-member house of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh which was scheduled to be held tomorrow, is likely to be stormy.

Explaining party’s stand over the trust vote, BJP spokeswoman Ranjani Shahi said: "To dispel the apprehension how eight elected councillors would run the House, the Mayor should first prove the majority. By adjourning the meeting of the House and running away from facing the voting, it has been proved that he does not enjoy even the support of 12 councillors who voted in his favour. So it is clear that he is the Mayor of minority."

Kewal Krishan Adiwal, when contacted, claimed the support of all nominated councillors. He would take up notice of simple majority at last moment of meeting as per the provision of the MC Act. He dared the BJP-SAD councillors to move no confidence motion against him "if they feel I have lost support of 12 councillors".

And early 1990s when media were threatened and many in the industry were killed.”

The meeting condemned the recent killing of Tara Singh Hayer, editor of Vancouver-based Indo-Canadian Times and expressed concern over reported attacks on the offices of newspapers like the one in Mumbai last year.
