Mayor opens Sahiyar canteen

AHMEDABAD, Oct 1: Sahiyar Alpahar Kendra, a canteen at V S Hospital set up by Sahiyar, a women’s trust, was inaugurated by mayor Joitaram Patel on Thursday amidst opposition from principal donors Anilbhai Chinai and Dr V F Shah.

The duo, as well as Congress corporator Surendra Baxi, who is a member of the V S General Hospital Board of Management, had walked out of the board meeting of April 25 in protest against the decision to allot two rooms on the hospital compound to Sahiyar Mahila Udyog Vikas Trust. The decision had got majority support.

Baxi said the resolution was passed in haste without following procedures before granting Shiyar space for a canteen and a medical store. He alleged the trust was unduly favoured and others were denied a chance to bid for the space. According to Baxi, a court stay on the proposed medical store might be sought as procedures were not followed.
