
The India under-19 team defeated England by three wickets in a low-scoring one-day match at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Stadium here today to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
English captain S Davies won the toss and elected to bat first. But the tourists could only score 169 in 48.5 overs. The hosts scored 173-7 with four overs to spare.
None of the English batsmen could come to terms with the spinning track except for the skipper who made 22 before being caught by M Tiwari off G Dhiman.
T Smith (19), M Ali (18), M Stoke (15), B Harmison (13) and A Harrison (11) failed to build on their starts.
Mayank Tehlan was the pick of the Indian bowlers taking 5-25 runs. He was ably supported by G Dhiman (2/25), J Nadeem (1/17) and M Tiwari (1/19). In reply, India lost four quick wickets for 66 runs but reached the target through some superb batting by Ankit Rawat, who made 69 runs with the help of 10 bounderies. He was well assisted by R K Shukla who hit three boundaries and two sixes to score 32.
