MUMBAI, September 10: The All India Football Federation has done it again. About 24 hours before the Federation Cup third place play-off was scheduled for kick-off, the match was postponed by a day. Now both the final and the play-off will be held on Saturday with the final being the first match on the day.
In the morning today, Churchill Brothers coach Danny McLeanen was very much in the dark about the play-off. 8220;Are you sure it will be held tomorrow?8221; he was heard asking.
The AIFF president, Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, who had requested that the gate earnings of the final should be donated to the flood-hit Malda district of West Bengal, had yesterday threatened to postpone the final and allot it to another venue if his wishes were not complied with, by the state government. That had only added to the uncertainty that prevailed during the past few days. However, with the differences appearing to be resolved today, the Federation Cup might actually get over a day earlier. That of course will be more of arelief than anything else.
