MUMBAI, DECEMBER 9: Chairman of the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal, S D Pandit has ordered the state government to pay the arrears of subsistence allowance to Senior Inspector K A Govari of the election branch who has been under suspension from February 20, 1999.
Govari, who belongs to the OBC and due to retire by March 2000, was suspended after 15 to 20 gunny bags containing the election branch records were misplaced or lost and he was held responsible for it.
Govari had made a grievance in his application that he was not paid the subsistence allowance from February 1999 since the date of his suspension. Through his lawyer, Namrata Naik instructed by M P Vashi and Associates, he argued that no inquiry had been held against him and it was on the verge of his retirement that he was ordered to be suspended. In his application, the deputy collector, election branch, T R Rokade and assistant election officer, D M Avhad told the court that the bills were ready. But Naik argued that though a notice wassent to them, no payment was made to Govari.
