On November 28, SP leader Amar Singh was more than candid in explaining his party’s dilemma vis-à-vis the Left to reporters outside the Parliament building. “It would have been better if we had followed the path of Ram Vilas Paswan or the DMK chief who enjoyed the fruits of power no matter whose regime it is at the Centre,” he said. “We have lost out because of our anti-Congressism and anti-BJPism. Even the Left is better—they are with us, they are with the Congress and they also call the shots with the DMK.” Asked how he looked at SP’s relationship with the Left, he quipped, “We are the infamous woh, while the Congress and the Left are the pati and patni. While the Left is having a courtship with us, it has consummated the marriage with the Congress.”
