
Relatives of a man arrested by the police for allegedly possesing smack, blocked traffic on Ludhiana-Chandigarh highway in front of the DSP office at Samrala on Thursday. More than 50 persons, including women, blocked the road for more than half-an-hour alleging that Samrala police had slapped a false case.
The police had arrested the accused, Sudesh Kumar, a tea shop owner, at Samrala and recovered 100 gm of smack from him on Wednesday. The wife of Sudesh Kumar, Geeta Rani alleged that police had made a false case against Sudesh Kumar, and she along with her relatives had met Khanna SSP Arunpal Singh, who marked an inquiry to Samrala DSP Ravinder Loomba. Meanwhile, the court remanded Sudesh Kumar in police custody for two days.
Geeta Rani alleged that the smack belonged to a youth, Bablu but the police ha arrested her husband. When contacted, Samrala DSP Ravinder Loomba said, 8220;As per NDPS Act, the person, who is in possession of the drug is accused and in this case smack was recovered from Sudesh Kumar.8221;
Loomba said, 8220;Sudesh Kumar told police that the smack was placed in his shop three days ago by Bablu. But Sudesh Kumar failed to inform police despite that fact he had knowledge of smack.8221; 8220;An inquiry will be conducted and allegations maded by the relatives of Sudesh Kumar will be verified,8221; said Loomba, adding, 8220;I was away at Machhiwara when the protesters blocked traffic and I mmediately rushed to the spot and cleared the blockade.8221;
