Man booked for killing brother

KHANNA, March 31: The police have registered a case against one Bahadur Singh, his wife and another person of Bija village, after the recovery of the decomposed body of veterinary doctor Harnek Singh, who was reported to be missing for the last two and half months. Bahadur Singh is the real brother of the deceased veterinarian.

As per information, Dr Harnek Singh, who was posted at village Baraa under Fatehgarh district, had married twice but did not have any child. So he had planned to adopt Bahadur Singh’s son as his son. However, later he chose the son of his another brother Majhai Singh for adoption. Dr Singh went to Khanna on January 9 to make purchases for an “Akand Path” to be held at his home but he never returned. Bachan Singh, the father of Harnek Singh, reported the matter to the police post Kot under police station Sadar, Khanna.

While the police was investigating, after about 70 days on March 30, a corpse was noticed in the village pond. On the basis of dress and other factors, Bachan Singh identified the dead body to be that of his son Harnek Singh.

After this, Bachan Singh lodged a complaint against Bahadur Singh and his wife Sukhwinder Kaur, since they bore a grudge against Harnek Singh for changing his stand in the matter of adoption of their son. Another person, Sohan Singh, was also accused to have a hand in the crime.

Arvind Puri, SHO, said while Sukhwinder kaur and Sohan Singh have been arrested, Bahadur Singh is absconding and efforts are on to arrest him.
