8220;Take care. Stay well. Will wait for your reply,8221; Mamata Banerjee wrote to Buddhadeb Bhattaerjee on Friday, in reply to the Chief Minister8217;s letter.
Sweet ending to a letter, written for the first time in her life to the prime political adversary.
In the rapid-fire volley of charges and counter-charges, police action and fast-unto-death, these were words of emotion 8212; lending a personal touch to an official letter written not on a Trinamool Congress stationery but on behalf of the 8216;Singur Save Farmland Committee8217;. The address: Dharmatala Camp Office, the place on Metro channel where the Trinamool leader had been on a fast for the past five days.
Beyond those three small sentences, the letter lays bare the Trinamool Congress8217;s combat strategy. Apparently unmoved, the Trinamool Congress leader continued her indefinite fast. And as far as Mamata Banerjee is concerned, things seemed to be moving towards a point of no return.
In the letter, Banerjee urged the chief minister to immediately stop 8220;forcible8221; acquisition of land in Singur and lift prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC. It had been an undeclared emergency since September 25, when police made a 8220;barbaric8221; attack on agitators in Singur, Banerjee wrote in the letter to the chief minister.
Earlier, addressing a 8220;mass8221; media conference, Mamata said: 8220;I want to see the end of it. I will die rather than withdraw my fast.8221;
