
A security guard working for D-Mart, a departmental store in Bangur Nagar at Goregaon intended to celebrate an early Diwali by swindling money worth Rs 20, 05,430 on Saturday night. He left the city with the huge amount. A case was immediately filed and the Bangur Nagar police managed to track and arrest the accused Sanjay Vaghchure 30 and his accomplice Yogesh Gholap 21 within 48 hours from a village near Sinnar, in Nashik, where they were hiding. Vaghchure has been charged with cheating and criminal breach of trust. The police have recovered cash worth Rs 19,99,000 from the accused.
Vaghchure had been working with D Mart for the last two months and was known to the manager of the mall. Securitrans India Pvt Limited, an Oshiwara based company that handled the daily transfer of the store8217;s earnings to the bank, posted him there. The money was transferred daily by security vans to the bank after the responsible security guard took the money from the cashier and punched a card with the mall security. Since the last month Tushar Parab, Vaghchure8217;s colleague, was made in charge of depositing the malls daily earnings, but on Saturday he went on leave. The security agency was arranging to send someone for this job, but Vaghchure took this opportunity and told the cashier that he was in charge for the day. Later, he fooled the mall security by telling them that the mall security card was with Parab.
When the police reached his residence in Borivili his house was locked as he had left with his wife and two children. A team was immediately sent to Sinnar, Nashik where he had relatives.
There they were told that he was living with his uncle in a farm in a nearby village. The police immediately zeroed in on him and arrested him.
The police also arrested Gholap who was with him and immediately confessed to aiding him in committing the crime.
