
May 8: Over 100 persons were rendered homeless and few factories were gutted in two different fire incidents, which erupted on Thursday morning. No casualties were reported.
The fire which broke out around two in the morning at the Gandhinagar slums near Nehru Science Centre at Worli destroyed sheds and slums spread out over 10,000 square feet. Six water tankers and eight fire engines were rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control within an hour. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
In the second incident, the fire which erupted around 5.30 a.m gutted a small industrial complex and few offices at Somwar Bazar, situated in Bombay Talkies compound at Malad. Fire fighters were struggling to extinguish the fire as it quickly engulfed the garment, plastic and rubber factories in the compound.
Eight fire engines and five water tankers were rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control by 8 a.m. The exact cause of the fire and the damages are yet to be ascertained, sources said.
