In a major bureaucratic reshuffle in Bihar, 65 IAS officials, including 19 secretaries and 29 district magistrates, were transferred on Sunday. This move by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is believed to be a preparation for the general election.

Nine IAS officers have been removed from the field, while three from other state cadres and at present on deputation in Bihar have been made DMs of important districts.

One of them, Jeetendra Kumar Sinha of the Manipur and Tripura cadre, has been made the Patna DM.

Punjab cadre officer Dilip Kumar and Sanjay Kumar Singh of the Orissa cadre, who had recently joined as additional secretaries in the Home Department, have been made District Magistrates of West Champaran and Gaya, respectively.

Another significant posting is that of Bandana Preyase as District Magistrate of Siwan. Preyase, a joint secretary in the Home Department, had hit the headlines recently when an RPF DIG misbehaved with her sister during a train journey.

Of the 29 new DMs, as many as 16 would be promoted IAS officers.
