BIKANER, August 1: Andhra Pradesh8217;s world u-10 girls8217; champion Koneru Humpy 4 points suffered defeat at the hands of Maharashtra8217;s Nivedita Sagade 4.5 at the National u-18 Chess Championships, here, today.

P Mahesh Chandran and Aarthie Ramaswamy of Tamil Nadu scored easy wins in the sixth round to maintain their lead in the boys8217; and girls8217; section.

Following Chandran 5.5 points closely in second place were MR Venktesh TN and former World under-10 champion, P Harikrishna AP, both with five points. In the girls8217; section, IWM Nisha Mohota WB was half a point behind Aarthie 5.5.

Top-seed Swati Ghate 4 of Maharashtra was shocked by Aarthie in another important game of the day.

On the top board, Mahesh Chandran defeated statemate and top-seed Sounderrajan Kidambi in 29 moves of Caro-Kann defence. Asian sub-junior girl8217;s champion Aarthie defeated top-seed and fourth in the recently concluded National A at Mumbai, Swati Ghate in a Paulsen variation of the Sicilian defence after 55moves.Results Sixth Round
