Cntroversial Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) MLA Rama Singh was arrested last night after he and his two guards thrashed a driver in Patna. The driver, who landed with fractured legs in hospital, was punished by the MLA and his men after the Ambassador car he was driving collided with the MLA’s Scorpio.

But instead of landing in jail, the MLA is at present admitted in a hospital. “He was taken to the hospital after he complained of chest pain. We informed the court and today or tomorrow he will be produced before the court”, City SP Anwar Hussain said.

Rama Singh, MLA from Mahnar constituency in Vaishali district, has a long criminal history.

The incident took place on an overbridge near the Patna railway station. According to eyewitnesses, the MLA and his security guards pulled out Jay Govind when the Ambassador dashed into the Scorpio, and started thrashing him, even as he kept on pleading that it was just an accident. The driver was thrown on the ground as the MLA and his guards beat him up mercilessly with rifle butts. There was commotion on the bridge as traffic came to a halt and a crowd gathered.

After some time, police reached the spot and took all of them to police station, lodged an FIR based on the statement of the victim and arrested the MLA and his guards. “Non bailable sections have been imposed against the MLA and his men based on the statement of the victim,” the City SP said.
