That the Congress and the Communist parties in Kerala passed a resolution in Kerala Assembly to release Abdul Nasser Madani...

.

Call this secular?

8226; That the Congress and the Communist parties in Kerala passed a resolution in Kerala Assembly to release Abdul Nasser Madani, a prime accused in the 1998 terror bombings in Coimbatore on March 15, makes for yet another reason why the press should no longer call these parties secular.
The fact also vindicates the BJP8217;s allegation made after the recent bomb blasts in Varanasi that the Congress is the root cause of terrorism in the country. The UPA, led by the Congress at the Centre, abrogated the POTA as soon as it came to power to please Muslims. The reason the Congress had given then was most of the arrested persons were Muslims; whereas, though most of the terrorists are Muslims, all Muslims are not terrorists and that the law-abiding Muslims were not arrested under POTA. Now, without POTA it is difficult to arrest and take action against local supporters of terrorists.

8226; Muslims are poor and backward and we are told that they must be given an interest-free Rs 100 crore corpus out of taxpayers money despite the fact that every year crores of rupess are sent abroad by numerous cash-rich Muslims in India. Such a corpus for 8216;Muslims alone welfare8217; is tantamount to imposing a modern-day jaziya on Hindus. Has anybody asked Muslims the question whether their backwardness is due to Hindus, due to living in India or due to the stultifying way of life imposed on them by Ulemas and Islam? The Kerala assembly has passed a resolution to get the Coimbatore blasts accused Madani free, which will earn the politicians the sympathy of the Muslims.

Courting stats

8226; While we talk about delayed justice, we are forgetting about judgments delayed. The number of cases in the high courts and the Supreme Court alone where, after the conclusion of arguments, judgments have been delayed because of abeyance of the verdict would be astounding. It will also be pertinent to ascertain the reasons for not expediting the politically sensitive disproportionate assets cases against present and past CMs, the latest in the series being the delayed judgment of the apex court in the Bihar assembly dissolution case.

Socialite soundbite

8226; The assertion of SP general secretary Amar Singh that his party will renominate Jaya Bachchan to the Rajya Sabha, without clarifying whether Bachchan will be giving up her UPFDC post, amounts to contempt of the President8217;s decision and the Election Commission8217;s authority. The subject of politicians making free with some of the very few credible institutions left in this country must also be part of the larger debate on office of profit held by MPs.

The theatre shifts

8226; The recent terror attacks in Ahmedabad, Indore and Chennai make it clear that the focus is now shifting to soft-target cities. Many more such cities must be on terrorists8217; agenda. We are yet to see any real security measures in vulnerable public places like bus stops and railway stations in these cities now in the terror range. Not securing our cities appropriately, while merely fuming at terrorist organisations, is a deadly error.
