MUMBAI, May 24: 8220;When the world is learning Windows, we are stuck with Basic8221;. That is not just computerese, but the basic truth. Not a kid8217;s babble, but a pained reflection of a student unsurely preparing himself for a world beyond his secondary school.

This can be done by a government or a private body where students should be asked to give their verdict in secret ballot boxes. Thirdly, let the SSC students be given opportunities like those of ICSE students who asked for counselling for the right pick. The latter in their IXth standard can exercise options among select number of subjects whereby one can completely chuck off mathematics and opt for arts.

Language teaching should be competency based and functional. The Archdiocesan Board of Education ABE have organised a seminar on teaching of marathi in catholic schools in March this year to be again followed up in June. The seminar focussed on developing conversational skills among students by several ways like reading and picture composition. As for history, selected events from our fifty glorious years should be included. And field trips makes geography more effective.
