CALCUTTA, May 30: West Bengal's ruling Left front retained its supremacy in the rural areas bagging 18,799 of the 33,206 Gram Panchayat seats declared till 11.30 am today.The TMC-BJP combine got 9,336 seats with Congress winning 3,692. Of the 972 Panchayat Samitis announced so far, the Left front won in 660, followed by the TC-BJP combine with 235 seats. The Congress won 63 and Independents and others 14. The CPM bagged 17 Zilla Parishads seats while the remaining two went to the Trinamool.Left front's partner CPM bagged 17,150 of the Gram Panchayat seats, the Forward Bloc 668, RSP 583 and CPI 398. Between the TC-BJP combine, the TC won 6,708 seats and the BJP 2,628. The Socialist Unity Centre of India won 227, JD six, BSP two and Independents 1,144 seats. Of the Panchayat Samitis, the CPM won 617, Forward Bloc 24, CPI 17 and RSP 2. The TMC won 192, the BJP 43 and Independents and others 14.
