Even as the CPIM wanted the government to explain why there was a delay of more than a fortnight in announcing the detention of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, it criticised the BJP for disrupting the procedure in the House over the issue.

Saying that even the Left had some questions to raise on the issue, CPIM politburo member Sitaram Yechury added, 8220;But it was unprecedented and unfortunate for the Opposition to have disrupted the Railway Budget presentation.8221;

8220;We want the government to answer two questions 8212; one, why was there a delay on government8217;s part to inform the Indian people about the detention of Quattrocchi and, two, to inform Parliament what measures were being taken to extradite Quattrocchi so that all legal proceedings against him could move forward8221;, Yechury said. He said 8220;someone responsible from the government should reply to these questions on the floor of the House.8221;

The CPIM leader pointed out that his party and the other Left parties had submitted notices to suspend the Question Hour to discuss the issue of price rise that adversely affected the people. However, the BJP did not allow the issue to be raised by disrupting the House on Quattrocchi issue.

8220;We want them and other parties to consider whether they can relegate the issues concerning the people to the background,8221; Yechury said.
