JAMMU, Feb 21: Pro-Pakistan Lashkar-e-Toiba LeT militant outfit was responsible for Saturday8217;s massacre of 20 Hindus in two districts of Jammu, a defence spokesman said here on Sunday. The Army has also killed two of the militants suspected to be behind the massacre.

The spokesman of the Northern Command told PTI over the phone from Udhampur that preliminary investigation by the Army authorities suggested LeT8217;s hand in engineering of massacres in Bal-Jarala, Mori-Patta and Binyara areas of Rajouri and Udhampur districts on the intervening night of 19 and 20.

The information gathered from the massacre sites points out that all the attackers were foreign mercenaries, he said. A militant killed later in encounter with security forces at Dangri near Bal-Jarala was identified as Nazir, an LeT militant, he said, adding he is believed to have been involved in the massacre as he was coming from that very direction where the massacres had taken place.

Meanwhile, bodies of the 22 Hindus, who were massacred byunidentified militants at three different places in Rajouri and Udhampur districts yesterday, were cremated today in the respective villages amidst tight security even as indefinite curfew continued in the Rajouri township for the second consecutive day while prohibitory orders were enforced in Sunderbani and Nowshera.

Army staged a flag march and para-military forces carried out patrolling in the three townships to prevent any violent backlash to the killing.

Official sources said that the decision to continue the curfew was taken at a meeting in the morning following fears that some untoward incident might take place at the cremation. The situation in all the three towns was reported to be tense.
