Russel Arnold and tailender Nuwan Zoysa steered Sri Lanka to a tense three-wicket victory over a weakened Australia in the fifth and final one-day international on Sunday.
In reply to Australia’s modest 198 for seven, Sri Lanka won with 2.1 overs to spare after Arnold, with 23 not out, and Zoysa, who hammered an unbeaten 47 off 42 balls, shared in an unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 66.
The pair had come together with Sri Lanka in trouble at 136 for seven in the 35th over. Australia, who rested four key players after clinching the series 3-1 on Friday, struggled in the morning after winning the toss and opting to bat. All rounder Andrew Symonds top-scored with a 48-ball 40, sharing a 76-run stand for the seventh wicket with tailender Brad Hogg, who finished on 35 not out.
Left-arm seamer Zoysa was Sri Lanka’s most successful bowler, taking three for 34 in his 10 overs.
