Tatas8217; entry into Gujarat for the Nano project seems to have geared up all sectors in the State. Support the project, educational institutions too are getting ready for it.

In order to meet Tatas8217; requirements, L D College of Engineering, Ahmedabad 8212; the State8217;s biggest engineering college 8212; has put forth its proposal to the All India Council of Technical Education AICTE to double the number of seats for the automobile engineering discipline.

At present, the college has 30 seats in Bachelor of Engineering Automobile. The college management has now requested the number of seats to be increased to 60.

Earlier, the college management had requested the AICTE to permit them to increase the number of seats in Masters of Engineering Automobile from 18.

But the council did not give the permission stating that it was not possible to increase the number of seats there.

It is therefore, possible that the number of seats in Masters course may increase in other engineering institutes of the State.

8220;At present, L D College of Engineering is the only institute in the State where Masters of Engineering Automobile is taught. But now, AICTE will consider other engineering institutes too, for this course,8221; said M N Patel, principal of L D College of Engineering.

He said: 8220;Until now, the craze towards automobile studies, especially in the car sector, was not much. But things have changed now. We are not the only institute asking AICTE to increase the number of seats in the automobile discipline.8221;
