CHANDIGARH, May 5: To discourage the use of power supply through unauthorised sources, the Chandigarh Administration today issued 250 forms to the residents of Palsora colony who have been stealing power through kundis.
Executive engineer V. P. Dhingra, who supervised the form distributions, told Newsline that the department had issued 1,600 connections in phases to the slum dwellers who deposited the prescribed security money with the Electricity Department. He said about 400 electricity connections will be given to the eligible candidates whose names have been listed in the survey conducted by the officials of the Estate Office. The officials of the UT Food and Supply Department were also present to verify the applicants and their antecedents.
The process of distributing forms for the temporary power connection will be extended in other colonies too where the residents are getting power through kundis, Dhingra said. He said that residents were informed about the form distribution through loudspeakers fitted on top of vans and were asked to deposit the security as soon as possible. This colony, with 3,000 jhuggis, has already been electrified and residents were mainly shifted from Badheri and Buterla. The remaining connections will be issued soon.
