Amid speculation that the Karnataka Assembly is about to be dissolved, Chief Minister S.M. Krishna met Chief Election Commissioner T.S. Krishnamurthy on Monday.
While Krishna tried to dismiss the hype created over the visit, saying it was just a ‘‘courtesy call’’, there were few takers for this explanation that he had come down from Bangalore only to ‘‘meet the new CEC’’.
‘‘There is a clear-cut constitutional provision on how to dissolve an Assembly. And, it does not require a trip to the Election Commission,’’ the CM insisted. EC sources, however, said that Krishna was here for the Commission’s view on the possibility of holding simultaneous polls in Karnataka before he dissolves the House.
In case simultaneous polls are held, the EC will have to deploy a large number of security personnel in the state, besides EVMs.
