The Interact Club Of Poona organised The Inter School Debate 98 on August 29, 1998 for the Winnerfred Aranha Memorial Trophy. The topic of the debate was of vital importance in the sphere of International happenings in the nuclear field. The topic was Pokharan-II, Was it a necessity8217;?

This event had an incredible participation of 20 schools coming from all over Pune. All the schools were very well prepared and this contributed to the high standard of the debate. This debate was conducted at the Shanti Sunder Hall, Y.M.C.A., Quartergate. The students were accompanied by a cheering team of 10 students and a teacher from each school who boosted the morale of the teams.

The chief guest of the debate was Lt. Col. Suresh Patil Retd. The panel of judges included Mr Chakranarayan the Vice Principal of Fergusson College, M Guzder, Headmaster of The Bishops School and s S Chowble a teacher in D.Y. Patil College of Hotel Management.

After a stiff neck to neck competition the trophy was bagged by the confident duo from the Army Public School. The winning team was represented by Sai Rekha and Arjun Verma. Rekha was given the best debater8217;s award. The gift vouchers were sponsored by The Crossword.

Little Artists
The Young Express Club in association with Fevicryl organised a painting cum drawing contest for its members. The theme given was Ganesh Utsav.

The event held on September 3, at St. Clares High School, saw nearly 200 children participate from various schools in Pune. The children who were divided into three age groups of:
A 8211; Six to eight years.
B 8211; Nine to 11 years.
C 8211; 12 to 15 years.
were given an hour to complete their drawing. Most showed their artistic flair by drawing scenes depicting pujas, cultural dances and mandaps, while others showed their originality and sense of humour through their drawings. There was one picture educating people to stop noise and dirt pollution road blocks and wastage.

The winners choosen from group A were Pranjali, Saurabh, Rohit, from group B were Preyas, Akshata, Meghna and from Group C were Anagha, Surendranath, Sagar.

Whereas consolation prizes were Prajwal, Arnav, Alok, Kaustubh, Pamarti, Sonali, Kausar, Asma, Monica.

The winners received Certificates and prizes sponsored by Fevicryl.

Concerted effort
For those who thought that Loyola High School excelled only in academics and sports, their annual concert time came as a pleasant surprise. Show-casing the immense talent of students and teachers in the creative sphere of arts, the concert spread over two days was packed with delightful dramas, dances and songs that enthralled the parents gathered.

quot;The Jungle Talent Searchquot; and quot;It8217;s a Small Worldquot; put up by the Primary section was a manifestation of the youngsters confidence and poise, with the latter covering seven languages and costumes of the world. Two English plays quot;Clean Sweep Sabrequot; and quot;Trial of Februaryquot; put up by the senior classes won accolades as did the Koli and Tippini dances and the tableau that depicted scenes from India8217;s culture.

Sanjay Nene, scientist at National Chemical Laboratory and Fr. S Fernandes S J, Provincial Pune Province, were the Chief Guests. As the boys carried off each role to perfection, that included the numerous ones where they had to don on wigs and skirts, it was heartening to note that all round development of children8217;s8217; personalities remains a meticulously followed principle of the school.

Shining bright
After the stunning success of last year8217;s function, A Tale of Two Planets, the Little Stars Club will be holding its second annual function on Saturday, September 19 at Nehru Memorial Hall. This year8217;s programme 8211; Raas to Rap 8211; will present the changing faces of Krishna in two acts, all enacted by the 40 members, aged between six and 12. Shobha Bhagwat, director Garware Bal Bhawan, will be the chief guest for the function.
