PUNE, March 30: A petty incident in which bicycles of two children dashed against each other led to a fight between their parents and ended with a murder of a 20-year-old youth as he was assaulted with sharp weapons at Salvenagar in Yerawada on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Vikas Subhash Kamble, a casual labourer who tried to intervene in the fight between his cousin Deepak Nana Kharat and Shankar Gunjal.
It was around 7.30 pm when the children were riding bicycles near Raj cycle mart. They engaged in a fight as their bicycles rammed into each other. The owner of the cycle mart Deepak Kharat tried to warn the children, one among whom was the son of Shankar Gunjal. The boy allegedly asked Kharat to mind his business instead of warning them.
Later, when the boys had left, Shankar Gunjal came to the cycle mart along with his sons Santosh Gunjal, Sachin Gunjal, Nilesh Aburao Bhosure, and Vinod Gopalswami, and began fighting with Kharat. When they assaulted Kharat, his cousin Vikas tried to intervene and stop the fight. Gunjal and his sons suddenly took out swords, knives and other sharp weapons and attacked Vikas. Vikas was immediately rushed to the Sassoon Hospital but was pronounced dead even before any treatment could be given.
The Yerawada police have arrested all the five persons who attacked Vikas. They have been remanded to seven days police custody.
