
CHANDIGARH, July 17: Inquiry officer Justice K.S. Tiwana today rejected the application of former Punjab Chief Secretary V.K. Khanna in which the latter had pleaded that proceedings of the inquiry into his alleged malafide action in referring two cases involving three top bureaucrats of the state to the CBI in Feburary last year, be held in open and not 8220;in camera.8221;
According to Khanna, Justice Tiwana took this his decision in response to the letter he had sent to him yesterday requesting him to conduct the proceedings in open and transparent manner.
Justice Tiwana was appointed by the Punjab Government to look into the manner in which Khanna referred two cases, involving three top bureaucrats to the CBI, just before the elections to the state Assembly in 1997.
Khanna himself argued in his defence before the inquiring authority reiterating his plea that in-camera proceedings were aimed at helping those whose conduct was being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigations. Khanna8217;s application for making available certain important files relating to land allotment to the Punjab Cricket Association and collection of funds was also rejected.
