NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 28: Relatives of Kargil martyrs on Tuesday made a strong appeal to the relativesn of the hostages of the hijacked Indian Airlines airbus to exercise restraint and not do anything that would create hurdles for the government in securing early release of the passengers.

They told reporters after a meeting with Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee that while they understood the anguish and concern of the relatives of the hostages, the need of the hour was to have patience and be supportive of the government actions.

Colonel retd V N Thapar, father of Lt Vijayen Thapar who was killed in the Kargil operations, said quot;any wrong action on the part of the relatives of the passengers would send wrong signals to country8217;s enemies.

quot;At this juncture we should not buckle under any pressure and strengthen the hands of the prime minister and the government, quot; he said.

The relatives of the Kargil heroes said they were all victims of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and had lost their dear and near ones. quot; The hijacking too is a manifestation of that and we must face the challenge boldly and not not from a point of weakness, quot; they said referring to the protests and demonstrations carried out by the relatives of the hostages.
