PUNE, Sept 14: The Khadki Cantonment Board KCB today found itself in a tight spot when three bailiffs from the district court sought to attach its official property for having failed to release the pension and arrears of a retired school headmaster.
High drama prevailed at the office as the bailiffs sought to take possession of furniture and the keys of the official car of chief executive officer Ajaykumar. The CEO released a cheque of Rs. 83,723.50 in favour of the headmaster, Dattatray Ramkrishna Kulkarni. Ajaykumar, however, said the cheque was given with a request to the court that the amount be released only after the KCB had examined the details of the case and the judgement.
The court8217;s judgement was an ex-parte decision, and the KCB had requested that it be given a hearing, Ajaykumar said. Kulkarni, headmaster of the Col. Bhagat School, retired in 1972. The delay in release of his pension arrears prompted him to file a suit last year. The court, in its decision in January, gave an ex-parte decision ordering the KCB to release Rs 83,723.50 as arrears. The court had given three months for the release of the amount.
