AHMEDABAD, July 26: Finances from private individuals, companies and government servants are freely flowing to the Fauji Jawan Shahid Fund set up for the purpose of helping the families of soldiers who have sacrificed their lives on the front.

The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund received donations totalling Rs 1,32,000 by way of one day’s salaries from the employees of the information department alone. Officers of class I and II of the department as well as class III and IV employees donated a day’s salary to the Fund. Additional chief secretary of information and broadcasting handed over the cheque on Monday.

The employees of the education department have also contributed Rs 1,27,570 to the Chief Minister by way of one day’s salary of its employees.

Contributions were also received from other government departments and agencies. Saurashtra Cements’ executive director C L Goswami handed over a cheque for Rs 5 lakh to the martyrs’ Fund.

Meanwhile, Dr K D Jeswani, chairman of Gujarat State Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd, has given a cheque for Rs 1 crore to Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel to help the soldiers fighting at Kargil.
