CHANDIGARH, Feb 15: Players from Kanpur dominated North Zone Ordinance and Ordinance Equipment Factory bridge tournament held here at the Kendriya Vidyalaya premises in Sector 29 today. SN Singh of SAF, Kanpur won the individual title while the team of SP Sharma, NG Ghosh, P Chakraborty, VK Roy, SR Sarkar and SG Saha of Ordnance Factory, Kanpur, bagged the first position in the Duplicate event.
OPTO Electronics, Dehradun, were placed second. The team consisted of VK Sharma, DK Acharya, JK Bajaj, VK Gupta, SS Rawat and Yaspal.
The SAF, Kanpur team of SC Bhowmic, SK Biswas, SN Singh and MD Chamoli, took home the title in Board-A match progressive events. OFC, Kanpur and OLF, Dehradun were joint second.
However, Kanpur team had a set back in the Pairs event, when VK Sharma and DK Acharya of OLF Dehradun edged out the duo of SR Sarkar and SG Saha of OF Kanpur to win the first position. Kanpur took the second spot.
Five teams participated in the North Zone meet. Ordinance Factory, Kanpur and OPTO, Dehradun qualified for the Inter-Zonal meet, which also commenced here today at the same venue.
In the Inter-Zonal meet Central Zone B8217; led the field with 57 points in the Duplicate event at the end of the third round.
Results
North Zone: Duplicate event: 1 Ordnance Factory Kanpur, 2 OPTO Electronics Delhradun. Board-A match progressive event: 1 SAF Kanpur, 2 OFC and OLF Dehradun. Pairs event: 1 OLF Dehradun, 2 OF Kanpur.
