He may be out of HRD Ministry, but former Union minister Murli Manohar Joshi is in no mood to stay quiet on the issue of text books. ‘‘The HRD Minister has been claiming that he will wipe out the saffron tinge from the existing text books. We want to know what does he mean by saffronisation of education,” Joshi said here today.

He added that the issue would be taken up during the scheduled working committee meeting of the BJP on June 20 and 21. ‘‘We will decide our future course of action during the two-day meeting,” he said.

‘‘Will our future generation again read that the relatives of Guru Teg Bahadur conspired to kill him because he would indulge in anti-social activities or that the Brahmins in earlier times ate beef?,” he asked.

Lashing out against Union Minister Arjun Singh, Joshi said he had visited the HRD department earlier but had never paid attention to what was written in the text books. ‘‘…We want to know the exact lines, lessons and other reading material in existing text books that convey the impression that there was a bid to saffronise or communalise education,” said the former Union Minister.

On the IIM controversy involving fee, he claimed that there were indications that efforts were being made to have higher education handed over to market forces.
