New Delhi, Nov 18: The BJP leaders have taken strong exception to the remarks of Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah that he would resign if the Centre did not dole out liberal financial help to the state to come out of a state of bankruptcy.

Although senior leaders did not vent their displeasure openly, in view of the ongoing talks between the state and the Centre on the former8217;s fiscal demands, Chaman Lal Gupta, minister of state for civil aviation, openly criticised the National Conference leader for 8220;irresponsible utterances8221;.

Gupta, a senior party leader from Jammu and Kashmir, asked Farooq to keep in mind that his party the National Conference was part of the National Democratic Alliance NDA and he needed to speak on matters concerning their relationship with responsibility. 8220;Threats and coercion will not work,8221; he said.

Accusing the Farooq Abdullah government of misusing Central aid, Gupta said real issue in Jamp;K was of rampant corruption. He accused all the ministers in theAbdullah cabinet of indulging in corruption and maladministration.He refuted Farooq8217;s allegations that the Centre was not helping the state with liberal financial assitance.
