The suspense over Jeev Milkha Singh8217;s participation in the forthcoming Indian Open is over with the ace pro deciding on Tuesday to play in the country8217;s marquee golf event.
Jeev had earlier indicated that he might have to skip the million-dollar event getting underway on October 9 at the Delhi Golf Club because of an ankle injury. 8220;The reason why I had not committed for playing in the Indian Open earlier was because I wanted a break before the World Cup in November,8221; Jeev told The Indian Express over the phone from London.
8220;But with my ankle healing slowly, I decided to reconsider my decision. It8217;s the national open, and I am looking forward to it,8221; said the world No.58, who is yet to win anything worthwhile in India.
For a player who has accumulated 17 titles across the globe, the last time he came close to winning a tournament at home was a decade back at the Hero Honda Masters, but he lost in a playoff. 8220;I don8217;t remember the last time I won in India,8221; he said, adding that he needed to play well to break the jinx.
8220;This event is something we Indian golfers always discuss. Be it Shiv Kapur, SSP or Jyoti Randhawa, who is very particular about playing in the event. With Daniel Chopra also coming this time around, it will be a very competitive field. 8220;It8217;s going to be a tough tournament but I am keen on giving my best this time,8221; Jeev signed off.
