Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani today said that the new thaw in Indo-Pakistan relations following the SAARC summit could turn out to be 8216;8216;historic.8217;8217;

It would not only strengthen the country8217;s security but also add to the 8216;8216;feel-good8217;8217; factor at the international level. Calling it a 8216;8216;remarkable8217;8217; development, Advani said that 8216;8216;a breakthrough has been achieved in the Indo-Pak relations during Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee8217;s visit to Pakistan.8217;8217;

The developments in Islamabad 8212; including the decision to have composite dialogue and issuance of a joint press statement on Vajpayee8217;s talks with President Pervez Musharraf 8212; were very significant and may prove to be historic in the future, the Deputy PM said, adding the development, coupled with last month8217;s action by Bhutan against Indian insurgents, would strengthen the national security.

He also endorsed the views expressed in Pakistan yesterday that the development was a 8216;8216;win-win situation for both the countriess8217;8217; and no one side should be seen as having won or lost.

According to the DPM, the breakthrough in Indo-Pak relations was the result of the Government8217;s 8216;8216;consistent approach8217;8217;, adopted since April, 2003, when Vajpayee visited Kashmir and extended the hand of friendship to Pakistan. 8216;8216;We had been following a certain direction since then which has brought us to the present situation,8217;8217; he said.

8216;8216;A feel good environment, which already existed in the country in the last year due to progress in economic field, has now been virtually transmitted to the international level,8217;8217; Advani said, adding that the whole world had welcomed the development.
