PUNE, Oct 26: The vigilance branch of the city police has imposed strict restrictions for running of pubs. The police has warned that all pubs will have to roll down shutters at the stipulated time of 11 pm, failing which the permits for the pubs would be cancelled.

The police have also warned that no illegal activities should be carried out at the pubs. Any odious dances and other such actions should be completely stopped, according to the directives.

Cases against Hotel Ten Downing Street at Boat Club Road and Hotel Pegasus opposite Poona Club have been filed by the police for keeping the pubs open after 11 pm.

The vigilance branch, on the directions of deputy commissioner of police crime branch Surendra Kumar, carried out surprise checks at four hotels last week. Apart from Ten Downing Street and Pegasus, the other two hotels which were checked include Black Cadillac on Bundgarden Road and Hotel ABC Permit room at Koregaon Park.

The police found that the Ten Downing Street and Pegasus were open till 12 at the night. Youths and girls were dancing to the tunes of western music while some others were consuming liquor, the police said.

Meanwhile, the Deccan police last night busted an illegal gambling racket being run in a flat at Chandrasheel Apartment, Ghole road last night. Seventeen persons including the racketeer Ganesh Murlidhar Sonavane was arrested. The police seized Rs 16,834. The action was carried out at 2 am.
