IT officials bust TDS racket

NEW DELHI, MAY 19: Income tax department has unearthed a major racket in the refund of tax deduction at source TDS following the arrest of a person who has claimed several lakhs of rupees by filing fake returns. Delhi8217;s chief commissioner of income tax Raj Narain told PTI that the tax department became suspicious when it found a TDS refund claim made against a non existent unit. Explaining the modus operandi, commissioner A C Chandra said Tej Narain Singh would file bogus returns in the name of fictitous names and claim refunds.
