
SURAT, NOV 28: The citizen8217;s charter, released by the Income-Tax on Thursday, is aimed at providing quality service and facilities to the tax-payer, I-T Commissioner R B Shukla said. The charter, close on the heels of a similar charter by the Customs and Excise Commissionerate, was released at a meeting held at Samruddhi, organised jointly by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the I-T department.
The members discussed many aspects of the charter at the meeting, a chamber release issued here said.
Speaking at the meeting, IT commissioner R B Shukla said all efforts will be made to deal impartially and honestly with all tax payers. 8220;The employees will try to be polite and honest while dealing with tax-payers,8221; Shukla said.
The department has also released names and telephone numbers of all officials to enable citizens to make full use of them. In addition, all letters, applications and other routine work of tax-payers will be completed within a month after the department receives them.
However, all complainants should also provide their Permanent Account Number PAN while corresponding with the department, the official said.
8220;At the same time we expect our customers to be honest in declaring their income and pay tax according to existing rules,8221; Shukla said. Chamber president Amarnath Dora, while welcoming the guests, said globalisation has opened the doors to many foreign companies. At such a time, both the tax-payer and the department should show a sense of honesty and discipline, Dora said.
