Nandigram will come up for discussion at the Politburo meeting of the CPI(M) to be held here on December 3 and 4. Though the primary objective of the meeting is to review the preparations for the party congress scheduled for March next year, sources in the CPI(M) said “the meeting will discuss the current political situation, including the developments in Nandigram”. The discussion comes at a time when the CPI(M) is being cornered for the situation in Nandigram. In fact, in the last Politburo meeting, party’s West Bengal general secretary Biman Basu had presented a report on the “developments” and the “sequence of events” in the area. The Politburo is also expected to complete the discussions on the political resolution for the party congress, which will then be forwarded to the central committee for a meeting to be held in New Delhi next month. Among other issues, the Left go-ahead to the Government for IAEA negotiations on the nuclear deal will also figure on the list of discussions, sources said. The 19th party congress of the CPI(M) is scheduled to be held in Coimbatore in March, 2008.
