VADODARA, JAN 21: Councillor Abdul Aziz Dangi said here on Wednesday that proper and balanced knowledge of religion alongwith with modern education was necessary for building a disciplined and morally healthy society.

Speaking at an Islamic knowledge contest8217; organised by Yadgaar Friends Circle on Wednesday night, he said that while modern knowledge expanded one8217;s horizons, and prepared one to face modern challenges and succeed in mundane affairs, religious knowledge inculcated high moral values that helped instill discipline and maintain peace and order in the society.

Urging the organisers to organise such programmes for women as well in future, he said balanced growth of society was possible only if women moved shoulder to shoulder with men.

Maulana Saleem Panegar, while coming down heavily on Muslim youths wasting time in gossiping at street corners till late night, asked those present to utilise time in acquiring knowledge so that they could become better citizens and be useful to the society.

Maulana Ameen Kajalwala praised the organisers for holding the function at a time when moral values were on the decline. He said an atmosphere of vulgarity and obscenity was prevailing all around and it was being vitiated through the print and the electronic media.

Ansar Ghulam Mohammed, Hafiz Ghulam Mohammed Abrar and Mohammed Imran Jumliawala won the first, second and third position respectively in the below 15 years age group, while Ghulam Mohammed Tauswala, Siraj Ahmed Tauswala and Abdul Shakoor Tauswala won in the above 15 years category.
