Confirming Indian suspicions, Nepal Maoist chief Prachanda has disclosed that Pakistan8217;s intelligence agency ISI had offered to help his outfit through 8220;direct or indirect8217;8217; means.

The offer had been turned down by him because it would not be in the interest of Nepal or its people, Prachanda told reporters at Kathmandu airport on his return from New Delhi.

He did not indicate the nature of the 8220;help8221; that ISI was willing to offer but his statement confirms the belief in India that the Pakistani intelligence agency is active in Nepal and some other neighbouring countries.

Prachanda, who met former Prime Ministers I K Gujral and V P Singh and other prominent leaders during his stay in New Delhi, said he 8220;found the Indian leadership very positive towards Nepal8217;s peace process and democracy and they would accept any verdict the Nepalese would deliver through the constituent assembly polls on the future of monarchy.8221; He claimed the visit succeeded in overcoming the confusion about the Maoists8217; insurgency which began in 1996.
