The Gujarat police8217;s report to the Centre on the LeT encounter tries to establish links between 19-year-old Ishrat Jahan Sheikh, Javed and the other two alleged terrorists shot dead on Tuesday last week. Besides, the report also stresses that two of them, Jishan Johar and Amjadali Akbarali Rana, were Pakistanis.

Sources in the Home Ministry said Gujarat police also buttressed the point that the Lashkar militants had planned to assassinate CM Narendra Modi and were in Ahmedabad to execute the plan. Javed Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh 8212; a converted Nair from Kerala8217;s Malappuram district 8212; was their link in India. They had come in contact with Javed while he was working in Dubai.

8216;8216;They were functioning as a terrorist module. Weapons and money had already been arranged through Javed,8217;8217; said a Home Ministry official. 8216;8216;And the girl, Ishrat, was a crucial link. The lower-middle class girl met Javed when he became her neighbour in Mumbra, Thane. Over a period of time, the intimacy between them apparently grew. At the impressionable age of 17, her involvement and participation in Javed8217;s activities grew. It reached the level of 8216;furtherance of common intention8217;. Legally and morally, she too was a terrorist.8217;8217;

However, sources said the girl8217;s trust was exploited.

About Johar, a resident of Gujranwala, and Rana from Sargodha, the report says they came to India via Kashmir about three months ago. 8216;8216;After the attack on Akshardham, police and intelligence officials were alert to the movement of suspicious characters. There were some STD and ISD calls to Pakistan made by the two suspected LeT militants,8217;8217; the official said. Details of the calls were in the report, sources said.
