Irregularities have been alleged in the appointment of lecturers at Government M R College, Fazilka, as guest faculty.

A resident, M L Baghla, in his complaint to the DPI Colleges, alleged that in gross violation of the Punjab Civil Service Rules, 1994, some less qualified candidates were appointed on August 12.

8220;In case of physical education and Punjabi lecturers, candidates who had passed UGC National Eligibility Test were ignored, while others were selected,8221; alleged Baghla. The lecturer appointed for English has not even qualified Punjabi test in class X, which is a pre-requisite, Baghla said, adding that for a history lecturer8217;s post, a candidate with UGC-NET and 12 years of experience was overlooked.

8220;When I asked for records of appointment under the RTI Act, the college provided information on August 20 sans details of the application of the candidates. But later, when the same record was provided in response to another application on September 5, details were provided. This implies that the record was tampered with,8221; said the letter.

When contacted, principal of the college Kulbir Singh said, 8220;We had set certain criteria for selection. There is no question of any partiality. This is an effort to malign the image of the college.8221;
