The Delhi High Court was assured by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Wednesday of “prompt steps” to review the use of allegedly obscene images in the media. A Bench, led by Chief Justice M K Sharma, took on record a report stating the formation of a panel intended to review provisions of the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act for monitoring publication and transmission of “sexually explicit visuals”.On a parallel note, the report informed that the Government was ready with the Broadcasting Regulatory Bill, 2007. The document, drafted by Additional Secretary Uday Varma, was submitted in response to PILs seeking direction to regulate the publication and telecast of “obscene” images. The petitions moved the court to direct the Government to either issue guidelines or enact a law to prohibit the media from publishing such material.
