Inzi strikes wrong note, skips event

A day before the DLF Cup opener against India, Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq struck a sour note here after he failed to turn up for a function during which the tournament trophy was unveiled.

A day before the DLF Cup opener against India, Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq struck a sour note here after he failed to turn up for a function during which the tournament trophy was unveiled.

With the Pakistan contingent, including coach Bob Woolmer, left red-faced, it was left to team manager Saleem Altaf to defend the captain with this line: 8216;8216;unavoidable delay.8217;8217;

However, Inzamam8217;s absence is certainly bound to ruffle feathers here, especially with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in town to watch the first match8212;the proceedings will be used to help last year8217;s earthquake victims.

A tense Altaf said, 8216;8216;Inzamam was certainly well informed in advance about the function.8217;8217; Sources said that Inzamam was present at the team hotel8212;President8217;s Palace8212;where the function was organised, but simply couldn8217;t make it.
