VADODARA, Dec 13: Interior design as an isolated discipline made no sense’, concluded Cho Padamsee, President and Principle of the College of Architecture, Goa, at the closing session of the third National Convention of the Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID) on Sunday.
Wrapping up the three-day event, comprising presentations by 19 speakers, Padamsee pointed out, “Every speaker said that there is a very close relationship between the inner space, the outer space and the envelop. There seems to be no specific place for interior design…In this respect, one feels that we should be moving closer together to form a building group. Interior design as an isolated discipline makes no sense”.
On the treatment of the convention theme Ethics and Aesthetics’ by the speakers, Padamsee said, “Some speakers touched the theme with a will, others touched it accidentally and yet others ignored it entirely”.
Particularly impressed with Australian architect Leon Van Shaik’s views on ethical behaviour as “owing a debt to one’s subject”, Padamsee added, “We do owe a duty to our subject. We can’t be formula designers having no attitude to design except to solve a problem”.
