
The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has arrested an Inspector of the force in connection with the kidney racket busted in Gurgaon early this year. According to police sources, Crime Branch sleuths have enough evidence to prove that the accused, Rameshwar Khatri, had a hand in extorting Rs 19.85 lakh from Dr Upender Kumar and Dr Amit Kumar, the alleged kingpins of the racket.
Police officials said Khatri, who headed the Special Staff team consisting of eight police officers, was arrested on Thursday evening. The other seven in the team were arrested earlier.
8220;Initially, Khatri was suspended for not taking note of the bribery scam his team had indulged in. He was to be arrested for negligence. But during our investigations, we found enough evidence to prove his involvement,8221; said a senior police officer.
According to police officials, ASI Ravinder Kumar Singh, posted in Khatri8217;s team, along with two head constables and four constables, had picked up Dr Upender Kumar and brought him to Connaught Place Police Station on January 7. The team later let him go after the kingpin, Dr Amit
Kumar, visited the police station and gave them Rs 19.85 lakh.
The bribery came to light after accused Dr Kumar told the Muradabad police about it during interrogations.
